Residents of HER House commit to recovery and to one another.
Resident Rights and Responsibilities
HER House is a single-family home with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Residents share common areas; a kitchen, living room, bathrooms, garden, and patio spaces. In a recovery residence, accountability and respect are essential to ensure the house remains a collaborative, clean, and safe environment. The Social Model of Recovery uses an intensive peer-based support system to encourage active engagement in recovery. Residents self-govern, enforce house rules, and vote on important issues. To that end, each individual must commit to minimum standards of conduct to ensure each individual and the residence as a whole achieves success. These standards are set forth in the Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
Residents have the right to:
Be treated with compassion, care, and respect.
A home free of judgement where they can be their authentic selves.
Work a recovery program that reflects their preferences and strengths.
The expectation that HER House does not engage in discrimination.
Privacy and dignity in your personal space and belongings.
File a grievance to HER House management, VARR, and any other authority without fear of retribution of any kind.
Be free from mental, emotional, and physical abuse.
Due process and a thorough and fair review of any complaints made against the resident.
Expect that resident records and personal information are kept confidential, unless the release of such records is authorized by the resident. The following exceptions may apply:
Court order.
If the client has a medical emergency, the next of kin will be notified.
In the event a resident dies, notice and/or records will be provided to the next of kin.
If the resident is suspected of child neglect or abuse they will be reported to the appropriate agency.
If threats are made by a resident toward themselves and/or others.
Be given a written copy of these rights for review and signature.
